When you think about it, the standard 'rock/pop/blah' template for the last 40 years at least, has been rather conservative and anything 'radical' in terms of how its reported, how it develops and how it plays out is also somewhat static isn't it? How many people still believe in the 'rock/pop/blah' dream? Sometimes you wonder whether reading about it in hindsight would be more fun than witnessing it first hand in order to keep some semblance of romanticism and make the 'rock/pop/blah' dream feel more maverick from all forms of popuylar culture. As it is you only need to read Mojo or even NME to realise how tired and unprogressive the whole 'rock/pop/blah' template is, and this isn't a bad thing, just something that we should all be aware of, unless we're selling it of course.

So, depending upon your point of view, surely the "I saw MBV once' and it was a moment in time that will never happen again" is surely a better way of ignoring quite a conserviatve artform than "Oh yes we see Nick Cave live every year and we book 3 light years in advance and he does a good show", which just screams complacency don't you think?
