I love this expression (from The Road to WIgan Pier, natch) - and of course no matter how RULES we think we are we've all had 'the Tawdries' round for lunch in the shape of a really horrible "I'm skint" meal - for me I think rice with baked beans has to be the nadir though I've had pasta with margarine and have even ate raw sausages - all student meals natch
