Upsetting a child (potentially alot)

medulla [Edit] [Delete] 10:29, 18 June '08

I volunteer through a programme that has paired me with an 11 year old kid who's quite socially deprived. Once a week you get a squid budget to go and do general activites, so this can be saved up for more expensive outings, etc.

My post-grad starts in August and it's going to be way too much work, namely whilst i'm on placement and will be working full time + homework marking + class preparation + coursework, and so i'm having to end the volunteering.

I spoke to my support worker and i've to tell the kid that in 4 weeks time i won't be seeign him any more.

How do you explain this to a hyper-sensitive 11 year old whose siblings all have volunteers too??!

Have you ever upset children? Do you take pleasure in seeing them cry? Share your anecdotes here...
