Cancelling job interviews for no good reason

other than that you only ever really applied for the post for interview experience, but now you've had an interview somewhere else you don't think you really need it anymore.

Also its not just a case of showing up and having the interview - I would have to prepare a presentation and stuff for it in advance, which would take a while.

BUT one of the guys at the company is my ex-boss and one of my referees, so I can't jsut tell them to fuck off.

how do I tell them I don't want to go to the interview anymore and don't want the job without insulting anyone or sounding like I was just messing them about from the start?
