The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

thephotobooth [Edit] [Delete] 02:08, 2 September '08

Has anyone read this? I was massively confused by the trailer for the film (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFkMTN439g0&feature=related), which shows two boys both with rather clipped English accents talking as if they're of different nationalities - some kind of Nazi/Jew WW2 undertone. However, having read the blurb on Wikipedia about the novel's plot, both boys appear to be German, the one in the striped pyjamas Jewish. I don't particularly want to read the book (unless it's something amazing that I'm missing out on), but why would the director confuse the issue surrounding their nationality, when it appears to be so important to the plot? It looks ridiculous, and pandering to readers of Richard and Judy's Book Club who find this sort of thing intellectual and challenging.
