let me try explain

it's when people try and riff on the idea that there is a secret world or universe going on in a banal, everyday environment.

for example

'what really goes on in the stockroom of a shoe shop? eh? i think they go back and its all decked out like a rollar disco'

or

'i rekon my fridge is actually a gateway to another dimension and when the light goes off the celery and the horseradish are actually the rulers of an alternate world'

anyone know what i'm aimlessly blathering about?

very dull and boring if not done carefully.....but it's such a huge schtick, i'm sure it has been done well somewhere...

any examples of it being done well or being done awfully?
