Why do children get sent to school?

creakyknees [Edit] [Delete] 12:29, 3 October '08

OK to ensure that minimum literacy and numeracy levels are met.
Also to learn peer interaction in case they aint got siblings.
Primary and infant school, so far so good.

But secondary school, whats all that about? Teenagers with raging hormones and coping with so much personal change do not need added irrelevant pressure put on them where their priorities might not be the same as the schools. Is there a more sensible way, apprentiships, going back to more education later? learning other sorts of things instead?

Are kids sent to secondary school just to keep them off the streets so that both parents can go to work, until the kids are old enough to have to get a job/go to uni?

Is the present pattern of educating the best tht we could have (I mean beyond the whole grammar vs comp thing)
