what happens to cricket balls that get thrown into the air?

dove_from_above [Edit] [Delete] 11:11, 19 December '08

Now, I don't play cricket. That much is clear. But I'm streetwise enough to know that when a fielder gets somebody out, the expected reaction is to throw the ball recklessly into the air

Cricket balls are really fucking hard, aren't they? And yet, despite my admittedly limited cricket viewing, I've never notice anybody actually keep an eye out for where the thing's going to land. Is somebody assigned to this role? Is that the umpire's job? What's going on here?

Does anybody ever get hit? Also, sixes. People must get hurt quite regularly with those, Shirley?

This thread is inspired by an episode of meths
