'HERMIT wanted' is not a job advertisement you'd expect to see very often.

But it is exactly what bosses at a city centre museum are looking for.

Officials at Manchester Museum want an artist to eat, sleep and breathe at the 120-year-old building's tower for eight weeks.

During that time they will be not be allowed to leave and are expected to live in 'complete isolation'.

Prior to their stay they will have full access to the Victorian Gothic attraction's permanent exhibits and collections.

But when their residency begins they will be banished to the tower.

Any budding Robinson Crusoes thinking of applying will have to be made of stern stuff. The museum is home to a host of daunting Egyptian artefacts. He or she will also have to put up with live animals including frogs, toads and even snakes. And they will also be sharing the Oxford Road building with the museum's tyrannosaurus rex.
