Why does the job centre have loads of security in it?

Odyssey [Edit] [Delete] 11:18, 8 January '09

Okay, feel free to piss down on me for not having a job for a few seconds (minutes)......

Right, why does the job centre have more security than your average shop? I walk in and there's four burly guys in suits who won't let me walk past to my appointment without intimidating me for 5 minutes, and when you get to where you need to go, there's two more waiting! It's just fucking bizarre!

I'm not going to rush in there and steal a JOB, am I? There's nothing of real value in the job centre, materially at least, so why do they need so much security? Or is it just the mentality that people who are unemployed can't be trusted to be left in one building without someone who looks like they could kill to stop them from spazzing out and drawing on the walls?

It genuinely perplexes me and I'd like an answer, so if anyone here has worked security at the local job centre, or whatever, tell me!
