Who do you think the 20 teams in the Premier League'd be if every club was performing at their "level"

theguywithnousername [Edit] [Delete] 15:17, 20 January '09

By which I mean clubs like Leeds and Notts Forest are generally thought to be underachieving at the moment in that they're not currently Premier League teams but if every team was achieving what you'd generally expect them to, who do you think the Premier League would consist of?

I imagine almost everyone would agree on 7 clubs (Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, Man Utd, Tottenham and Villa) and probably Man City and West Ham would figure on most people's lists too. As might Newcastle.

Of the clubs currently outside the Premier League I'd put Leeds, Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry in too as they were always top-flight clubs when I was growing up. The other 4 are more open to debate though and I can think of at least 10 clubs with a reasonable case.

But who would you choose?

And part b) what do you think your club's "level" is? I'd say lower-mid-table in the Championship for Bristol City (as we are right now) is about right.

PS before anyone asks what this should be based on - I'd say a combination of history, childhood nostaligia, current size, infrastructure and achievements and, above all, utter irrational prejudice.

PPS Yes, I am bored at work today.
