It's this thread! But yeah, this is a thing isn't it? Until the age of, like, 22, I don't really think I'd ever met anyone who'd been on a date, let alone been on one myself.

It must either be something to do with a change in the way that people make friends as they get older (do you stick to your bluds and kinda of have to decide where new people are going to go? Do we want to be colleagues, acquaintances, or shall we mash our faces together in a horrific approximation of kissing?); or perhaps it's just less drunken flouncing about in clubs, slapping people with your errant mammaries and genitals.

But then: Dates! I was going to say that I've never asked a lady on a date on first meeting, but now I think about it, I have. A few times. They've just said no. My tears!

And then: dates can be lovely. It's rare to just get a chance to sit down and talk to someone new one-on-one. Better if you get on well. Better still if there's wine and cheese. Better still if it ends in pashing. (I take no responsibility for this word.) What is not to like about dates?
