Yes it's basically the exact same game it was on the SNES (and Playstation) but that means it's still probably the most compelling and absorbing RPG on the DS.

I played for nearly three hours this morning without even noticing the passing of real time.

Everything about it is still fabulous.

If my DS battery hadn't died I'd still be on it now and would be putting off doing my readings for uni for the rest of the day, rather than an hour or so.
