Is it just about the presence (or not) of a tie, or is there more to it than that? Does it depend on the suit.

I love suits and have a few (a couple are very very nice) but would like to rock the suit thing at some point, but accessorising and dressing the look for a casual environ is a potential minefield of clothing upsettery.
