Firewalls and Antivirus Software (action packed-centric)

trans-siberian [Edit] [Delete] 12:14, 24 March '09

I'm buying a laptop for my dad, who is not very computer-savvy but is keen to learn. He's going to get broadband.

I got Norton with my laptop when I got it, and also have been using ad-aware and spybot search and destroy, and have been alright.

Do I need to get Norton (or McAfee or Kaspersy or whatever) for my dad's laptop, or will I be fine with ad-aware, spybot search and destroy and windows firewall? Anyone tried to do it this way?

Just trying to be frugal for my dad but also keep his pc virus free!

Thanks for any suggestions / advice :)
