Repeated door opening etiquette

Judge_B [Edit] [Delete] 10:46, 26 March '09

There are 3 doors to get through from the car park to the building I work in. It's not uncommon to either follow or be followed by someone through all 3 doors, but the problem then seems to come with saying thank you. When I am the follower, I like to proceed thusly;

Door 1 - (smile, normal voice) "Cheers, thanks a lot"
Door 2 - (smile, slightly quieter voice) "Thanks"
Door 3 - (smile)

there are then another two doors to get past should they work in roughly the same area as me.

Door 4 - (weak smile, almost inaudible voice) "Cheers"
Door 5 - (apologetic smile)

The response from others when they are following you vary dramatically, from overly-elaborate floral thanks to utter ignorance. You also have the moral dilemma of how long you wait for someone to make their way through the turnstile before closing door 3 in their face. My rule is that if their card doesn't let them through immediately, I'm off.

I guess my question is - has anyone else over-analysed any part of their day so far today?
