the more in-your-face they are about it, the less likely they are to get money from people. speaking personally, and i give money to charity plenty, when one of them makes a point of loudly asking you for money and then giving you the completely unnecessary and downright ignorant 'thank you very much' when you have the gall to refuse, it just makes me even less inclined to hand over anything to these people. i'd rather just do it by different means, pay at the office or whatever. i think it's staggeringly ignorant and i suspect i'm not alone in thinking that
