How many times have you, people you know or places you know become caught up in major news stories?

Four I can think of for me.

a) A doctor who operated on me when I was younger was embroiled in a major news scandal due to the death rates of babies operated on in that hospital. It was quite sad really 'cos he was clearly a very good surgeon and a very nice man but had evidently not admitted there was a problem when things started going wrong.

b) I used to live opposite Bounemouth police station. About 6 years ago the big news story one day was this couple who'd abandoned their baby in Spain or Portugal. They were being interviewed at Bournemouth police station so when I woke up and turned the TV on the first thing I saw was the view out my window!

c) The school were my Mum works is closed this week due to swine flu. I'm also really familiar with the place where the first man to catch it person-to-person in England lives.

d) Obviously the London bombings but no more so than anyone else who lived and worked in London at the time.
