Is there some justification for the ending or is it just the most implausible series of coincidences in fictional history?

Specficially the fact that Rose Maylie (the girl whose house he's forced into to burgle) turns out, by a weird set of contrivances, to be his Aunt? Did I miss a part where Monks ordered the burglary of that specific house for that specific reason, which would just about justify it, or was it just ridiculous?
