isn't very Star Trek-y?

I enjoyed the movie, a really great blockbuster, lots of spectacular sci-fi action but i do have two or three complaints - it didn't feel like star trek. it was too big, flashy and action packed, the characters had plenty of quirks to keep them recognisable but really they weren't much like the originals.
All the exposition made me feel like i was being treated like a child, but then on the way out i overheard someone having to have the time travel stuff explained to them so maybe it was necessary.
