Proportional Representation for the UK

Lucien [Edit] [Delete] 17:24, 26 May '09

Topical.

Do you support the idea of proportional representation in parliament?

Obviously it's just been dismissed in David Cameron's latest flurry of pandering, but then it's hardly in his interests to suddenly lose the first past the post system when he's likely the next PM under that system. But for those who aren't in line for PM, it would seem to make sense to break up the current two party system, particularly now that there's not a huge difference between the two - elections seem to be mainly a race to the centre.

It was introduced in New Zealand in the mid-nineties amongst much consternation, but there's little doubt now that, despite its own kinks, it has been a huge improvement and better represents the nation.

Good or bad idea for the UK?
