UPDATE: That job I mentioned in the 2 good, 2 bad thread last night was a scam

musicismyradar [Edit] [Delete] 23:20, 23 June '09

For those not in the know, I applied for 5 jobs at the same company through a recruitment website. I got a reply the other day asking me to attend interview for one of the positions I applied for - I had my reservations already as it was the only commission-based out of the 5.

The job advert was very vague, so I asked that before I rang and arrnaged an interview, I wanted written details including a full job description, outline of duties, and details of the pay scheme, on the premise that not having those details would leave unprepared at interview.

The e-mail I got back continued to keep cards close to the company's chest, and it said I would get details after I arrabged an interview, but they'd like me to phone so they could ask me some questions before I arranged an interview. At this point, the secrecy began to play on my mind, so i did my own research (the company in questions didn't have a website despite being 'one of the UK's fastest growing marketing firms, specialising in improving brand awareness for its clients' - another aspect that rang alarm bells)

The results? Apart from a shitload of job adverts - this: http://tomcat4.prospects.ac.uk:8080/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3338

I had applied to AMM Direct Ltd. A coursemate of mine had applied to Foster's Marketing Solutions. A quick phonecall to said coursemate to check the contact addresses were the same was all that I needed as closure. That and the fact that their 'marketing' positions are basically lowly door-to-door sales, where you'd struggle to earn enough to survive, even in Wolverhampton.

Apparently this kind of stuff exists all over - Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham etc so a heads up to any DiS'ers applying to any kind of similar marketing positions!
