Can anyone answer a question that is bothering me? This one is for the space cadets/brain surgeons amongst you.

A while back I read about a theory/condition that when a person/animal sees something that is so unbelievable, something so inconceivable that their brain cannot process it, and the result is that they basically can’t see it. For example, if in the future humans were to go to another planet where there is a less advanced life form, the fact that people get out of a spaceship and approach them would be such a shock, a surreal and unbelievable sight that their brain wouldn’t be able to process it and they therefore wouldn’t see them.

Does anyone know what this is called? It’s driving me mental.
