the soprano's...final scene

michael_w [Edit] [Delete] 04:25, 26 September '09

genius...amazing...

i fucking loved it. anyone that has beef with that ending needs to take their cannoli out from their ass.

it was absolutely perfect.

for me....there are no cryptic clues or symbolic gestures....it just comes down to two things

a) no grand, sprawling montage could ever do it justice....i mean...there's been so many over the series it wouldn't feel like the wire where they save the montage for the final episodes and it comes with some real weight. and, literally what could they have shown to trump the rest? all was done. everyone is dead or comatose or paulie. there weren't anymore stories to tell, no futures to hint at.

b) tension...the whole show is about tension....what you know is coming...what you think is coming....it toys with you like nothing else...it know exactly what you're thinking and how it made you think that at all times....that fucking scene...meadow in the car....journey....the shifty guy....the black dudes....it builds and builds and builds, i thought i was gonna lose it, i couldn't take the tension....and then....pop....nothing. all stop......no release....no fade out music.....no lingering shot for you to register what just happened. it was the best way to get your attention....amazing....i've watched that scene back like six times. genius. in a show all about turning the tension screw until the release, it just didn't provide the release....and how the fuck can you ever get that out of your mind. brilliant.

that's it really...nothing more than that. amazing though.
