I finally got round to watching The Departed last night. And I enjoyed it a lot. Certainly one of the better things Scorsese has done in recent years.

But for me it didn't quite match Infernal Affairs. Maybe it's the benefit of nostalgia as I haven't seen the original for about 7 years, but it felt more heavy overstated and too reliant on fringe characters to tell it's tale. Plus it did that usual Scorsese thing of having a large piece of exposition at the front end. It also had a more Hollywood, rounding-everything-up-nicely finale, which didn't resonate as much as the original's did.

What did everything else think? Better, or merely a very good retread?
