i'm probably less interested in the fact that a tabloid newspaper printed a false story about a celebrity than i am about the false story itself.

you know, a documentary about the role that tabloids have in spreading false information (about immigrants, teh gays, crime) could probably be quite interesting, but this sort of screams "hey, the proles are obsessed with celebrities now! silly proles, but it's acceptable to be interested in celebrities if you mask it with an air of distaste!".
