Lately, idiots with children and hair straighteners have been unable to keep those two things apart from each other.

With appaling consequences.

So the NHS have teamed up with various other agencies (fire depts, shopping centres, parent&toddler groups, community centres, etc) to hand out heat resistant bags and push a campaign to encourage parents to be more sensible with their hot straighteners by putting their hot straigteners in these heat resistant bags after use.

A campaign to make idiots more aware of their idiocy, thus helping to lower the frequency of utterly horrid burns occuring to small children is fine.

But this is where I cut to the chase: If it's such a big problem (and it seems that it might well be) then these heat resistant bags should be made to be a compulsory accessory (with an accompanying advice sticker on the appliance), inluded in the box, with all straighteners sold in this country.

We're not talking about giving out or installing smoke detectors or home insulation, or whatever. Something that is particularly beneficial to the more vulnerable sections of society.

Although these young kids suffering from straigtener-inflicted burns are vulnerable sections of society, the problem is entirely the fault of vain, idiot parents.

I object to money from general taxation being spent on this when a problem is so clearly due to one thing in particular, the cost of this scheme should be entirely funded by a combination of the industry at the root of the problem and/or the purchasers of the items at the root of the problem.
