At what age do piercings come across less punk, more mid-life crisis?

xylopwn [Edit] [Delete] 09:54, 12 January '10

I have a lipring that I'm pretty fond of, but looking around the music industry, there are fourty-year-olds walking about with ponytails and leather jackets and flesh tunnels, and they look like complete douches.

General pub consensus is that I can get away with anything up to 28, but then after that it'll be a bit weird - the guy still trying to be down with the youth.

Ultimately this thread stems from the days I lived in Tunbridge Wells. There was this one guy who's definitely mid 30s, who rode around on his bmx in a vest, combats and super long dreads. He talked a lot about corporations and non-conformist attitude. He was also a giant douche.

I don't think anyone wants to be that guy, even that guy himself, so my question is: when do you let go of the punk rock pretense, and when does it just look plain weird?
