Why do you think ITV's news is so unintentionally comedic?

Someone mentioned in another thread one they used during the Ipswich prostitute killings: "They should have been counting the days to Christmas in Ipswich. Instead they're counting the bodies of dead prostitutes".

I remember during one of the expenses reports, they kept going on about how "the political class are going to get a good old kicking, whether they like it or NOT!" and stuff. It's so cringeworthy.

But the people calling the shots are all very intelligent. Surely they're aware of how Brasseye they sound in their silly delivery? Why do they do it?
