I just don't know why anyone would want to work in the HR role.

Much like the Internal Affairs Division at any given US police department, everyone hates you and would quite happily take you out given half a chance.

There was a time when they acted as a vital conduit between management and the workforce, but it would seem that they have been transformed into an instrument of oppression, a not so secret police to enforce a top-down hierarchy.
