Yesterday I was a zookeeper for the day

tomatron [Edit] [Delete] 09:39, 26 March '10

It was my birthday present from my girlfriend, and she was zookeeper for the day as well :D

IT WAS AMAZING

It was at the Five Sisters Zoo near Edinburgh http://www.fivesisterszoo.co.uk/ - it's quite small but it has a reasonable selection of animals, also it was super quiet so we pretty much had the zoo to ourselves!

The best bit was probably the monkey house - we got to hand-feed two types of lemur and two types of marmoset, and I even got one of these little chaps sitting on my shoulder as I gave him tiny bits of banana to eat:

xD

I also handfed the raccoons, the micropigs, the owls, and the donkeys! Unfortunately I wasn't allowed in with the otters because they are too bitey (fun fact - Terry Nutkins lost two fingers to an angry otter), but I got to dangle dead chicks over the side of their enclosure and one of them jumped up and grabbed it out of my hand! AWESOME.

We got to go into the enclosures of lots of other animals to put their food out as well, and also we cleaned out some enclosures. I got to do the otter one, which meant getting into a tiny tiny house which smelled of fish death and ammonia, but it was totally worth it when they ran back in and started rolling around in the hay :D

It was totally amazing, we learned a lot about SWEET ANIMALS, and we rounded off the day with being allowed to handle a tortoise and a snake and a bearded dragon.

Also we got a goody bag, which is about the time we realised that the 'zookeeper for a day' thing is usually taken up by small children rather than couples in their mid to late twenties.

I DON'T CARE, IT WAS THE BEST THING EVAAARRRRRR!

:D
