who is they main guy? why does he get to travel round the world?

It's a good programme and i like it, but he's not the most engaging and charismatic host ever. I doubt michael palin is fearing for his career. I'm sure if i pitched the idea of travelling round the world for 6 months with a large expense account and expensive camera the bbc wouldn't give it the green light. So fair play to mr tropic of cancer for blagging it.
