Is it possible to buy bottled Real Ale that isn't carbonated?

Bassdrum13 [Edit] [Delete] 17:59, 6 April '10

Some very good ales are available in the supermarkets (at pretty hefty prices too, i might add) but they are all heavily carbonated.

I have to resort to pouring the from a height and waiting for the mountain of froth to settle to get the 'texture' to anything like it is in t'pub, but it somehow affect the flavour (similar to how flat sparkling water tastes different to normal tap water)

Why can't you just buy ordinay bottled ale as it is from the barrel? I know my local pub sells them - why not the supermarkets?

Why god, why?!

P.S I know very little of the beer making/transporting process, so I apologise for my ignorance.
