Pretty annoying?

Someone in our neighbourhood has started up as an Avon lady. And now we get a catalogue pushed through our door every month... and we're expected then to leave it back outside on a certain day, even if we have no interest in buying from the catalogue and are never likely to do so.

How can such an irritating business model make money? Who actually buys from the Avon catalogue?
