Sky News cleared by OFCOM over election coverage

marckee [Edit] [Delete] 17:13, 6 July '10

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/jul/05/ofcom-sky-news-adam-boulton

What a joke. As someone has stated below the article, personally, I think that the sight of Adam Boulton ranting away is enough punishment for him – it made him look like a total fool and has hopefully lost him a lot of respect within news circles.

What is worrying, and what doesn’t seem to have been addressed by OFCOM, is Sky News’ practice of putting up one of their own correspondents to ‘balance’ the presence of a Labour party representative. Don’t forget that Boulton wasn’t interviewing Campbell – he himself was being interviewed, and was placed alongside Campbell to offer an alternative view.

Similar things happened throughout the election and its aftermath – witness the interview with Ben Bradshaw, for example. Can someone find the part of the OFCOM code that allows for a broadcaster ask one of its reporters to be interviewed as a Conservative representative-by-proxy?
