living on benefits: some questions and some thoughts

iamwiggy [Edit] [Delete] 12:12, 11 August '10

how much do you reckon people should get for JSA ?

how little could YOU survive on per week ?

how much people do actually get for JSA ?

people often talk about the 'living on benefits lifestyle' but how difficult do you think that lifestyle should be ?

surviving on very little money is possible (when discussing this at work one person said they thought they could survive on a tenner a week...) but being able to get around to find a job, and keeping your sanity requires you to have at least SOME money for socialising/gonig to see people.

so basically what i mean is, would it be better to give people on JSA less money ? that way people would be more desperate to find a job of any kind... shouldn't that be the point ?

i'm lucky in that i have an income but lots of other people i know (we've all just finished uni) have not and are just going straight onto benefits. i get the impression that some of them are simply not willing to work in a job that doesn't give them a large amount of money. i mean they wouldn't consider working at, say, sainsburys. i'd rather do that than have nothing to do with my time, i'd just end up posting on here all the time and eating biscuits on the shitter.

tl;dr ?
