Great British Waste Menu

TheoGB [Edit] [Delete] 09:39, 26 August '10

'Waste' food. That's my first feeling. I felt like a lot of people were just giving stuff away that they might have kept. Especially that guy with his topside of beef and black pudding given he said they give it away to staff. Was he really sure someone didn't have their eye on that black pudding? And, y'know, if left-over fruit and veg is going to feed livestock it's not actually waste, is it?

I also didn't like how we consumers were being told off for not buying stuff when we didn't even see it to buy it in the first place. So many bloody strawberries for example: Maybe if they stocked their shelves with all the strawberries that get thrown away and halved the cost we'd all eat strawberries more often?

Also peppers/tomatoes/etc. with blemishes: You're paying the same price either way so it's hardly surprising the average consumer is only going to pick up the best looking stuff. No one wants to be ripped off.

Still, it was fun to watch. Jay Rayner's always good value. If Masterchef was him and Michel Roux Jr. and no Greg and John it would be amazing.
