So Exeter&cornwall campus SU are going to the demo in London next Wednesday and personally I think they are being a bit silly. Firstly, the people who are attending/for this march: One person writes on the facebook page, "I can't go, I'm in enough trouble from missing two lectures last year. :( Suckage." Yeah, I can see why you would be upset about a fee increase/cuts to studies that you don't actually attend.

Now, the 'policies'.

"This is your chance to:
Stand up as a student movement"
Yeah, righteous man, lets emulate the great movements of protesting against wars, human rights and destroying the environment. We shall define ourselves as a generation by complaining that we have a slightly larger loan to pay.

"defend students' rights"
I would like to know what "rights" are being violated? Is this the right to go on a jolly to London, get pissed, wear some face paint and shout a bit?

"secure accessible future and higher education for generations to come."
Yeah, everyone should be able to go to Uni, but wouldn't it be better if a degree was worth the piece of paper it was written on? Yeah, how about we don't pay any money to universities and then have no teachers. We could teach ourselves because we're all so clever and know all the issues already.

Basically, if you are going on this demo you are just going because you think it'll be a 'laugh'. The lack of knowledge on the topic is equally frustrating. I was talking to someone recently who was banging on about how the government aren't going to do anything for poorer students. No apart from the grants, the lower rate to pay loans back, less money to pay loans back.
