Creative writing exercises etc

nice_squirrel [Edit] [Delete] 15:54, 7 January '14

I've read loads of good books over the holidays, which have inspired me to have a bit of a go at writing some fiction bits in my spare time. I'm a marketing writer/editor for my job so I write every day, but I haven't done anything creative since school, and I don't really know where to get started.

I'm sure lots of you are writing types, so what do you do to practice your skills/get inspiration? Are there any good sites which give you challenges/exercises to get started? I'm picturing something a bit like creative writing classes but without actually having to go to one. I've been signed up to get the NaNoWriMo emails for years but I'm clearly never going to be bothered to do that.
