How do you buy a website?

ThierryEnnui [Edit] [Delete] 17:16, 9 January '14

Like, register a URL? I've looked at 1&1 which are charging £2.99 p/mth rising to £4.99 after the first year, but I'm sure I could do it cheaper than that. Although, for a layman, would it be better having the support of a dedicated web company, or is it all pretty straightforward? Go Daddy are offering £1.29 for a year, £6.49 thereafter, for the domain name. I checked these because they are the only two who advertise on TV and I don't know what I'm doing. Is there a cheaper option? The address I want is definitely available, so I'd imagine all options are open.
