Thursday Gaming Thread

vamos [Edit] [Delete] 18:11, 22 January '14

(A bit early, I know)

Mainly started it as I wanted to draw attention to this great article about Nintendo and where it goes next. Tells a few home truths and leaves you wondering what'd be best for them to do:

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/446277/blog/nintendo-must-reinvent-itself/

Focus on handheld? Makes games for the other major players? Scrap the Wii U and start again?

I agree with a lot of what this article says; slow to react, baffling that they never embraced online, hard to work with etc. They've given me some of my favourite moments in gaming ever (and I'd say that I'd keep my Wii over the xbox for the standout titles each has) but they've spent years and years making money out of franchises decades old (how many times have they resold early games in Ltd Edn guises or on Virtual Console? When people were clamouring for more Wii U titles, why didn't they rerelease Xenoblade, Metroid Prime Trilogy in stores to tide them over or make all the NES / SNES / N64 games on VC free given that they're now 10-30 years old?), so maybe it is time for a rethink. Wii aside, as the damning chart in that article shows they've been in freefall in the home console market.

Whatever they do, I hope it doesn't mean that the (not so) secret Retro title, X and Bayonetta 2 never see the light of day.
