Is the golden age of trolling over?

Pegfeet [Edit] [Delete] 13:07, 7 February '14

Feels like two or three years ago, the internet was full of trolling artists. Lots of different styles. Lots of nuance. People who were genuinely skilled at winding others up.

Now it feels like nobody's any good at it anymore. Most have moved away from the practice entirely. Those who have kept it up are a shadow of their former selves.

The obvious conclusion would be that the media took the term, bastardised it, and made it unfashionable. Do you think that's what happened? Or is it just a cultural internet thing fading away as cultural internet things inevitably do? Is it just a blip, and will we see the art form taken up by a new generation? Was part of the problem that it relied on people not being massively internet-savvy, and now everyone is?

Let's discuss the state of trolling in 2014.
