People taking the spelling and pronunciation of your name into their own hands

m-dizzle [Edit] [Delete] 13:09, 11 March '15

Does this bother you as much as it does me?

My name's fairly simple and phonetic, I go by Micky. However, some people seem to have no problem whatsoever deciding for themselves on how to spell it or say it. With some people, namely colleagues, it's just gone on for too long for it to feel like I can tell them it isn't Mikey, and that I don't enjoy that name whatsoever. I think I had an opportunity to correct one guy about 2 years ago, missed it, and have now utterly doomed myself, despite everyone else in the building calling me by my given name.

Anyway, names are pretty personal. Am I alone and is this all my fault?
And hey, by the way, this is my first thread in about 4 years.
