They're everywhere aren't they? I've only seen the first Despicable Me - once, at my niece and nephew's house, and can't remember much about them. But they've become strangely ubiquitous. I can't read my Facebook feed without someone posting some (usually unfunny) one-liner with a picture of a Minion next to it.

Do they have an appeal that I've missed?
