so, hot on the heels of my impending redundancy comes some severely awful affliction to my dog. Don’t know if any of you remember my dog. I got her last year. She's only 18 months old.

She started being sick and pooing blood at the weekend. Took her to the vets, who gave her three kinds of medication, but several hours later she hadn't improved. Instead, she disappeared into the garden, and it took us three hours to find her, dug into an obscure hiding place between gardens. My clever mum suggested using another dog to sniff her out, which worked. Without it we wold never have found her. In the time she'd been gone, flies had got to her and laid eggs in her bum.

Took her to the vets, and they kept her in.

She is in the worst way, been in the vets since Saturday on a drip, two blood plasma transfusions, not eating, still shitting blood. The vet said she has never seen any animal as bad as this for such a prolonged period. She is being referred to a specialist today, but it doesn't look good. Does it?

My two-year old daughter has been asking whether Marcie will be home in time for her birthday. heartbreaking.
