A thread for homebrew wankers

hip_young_gunslinger [Edit] [Delete] 16:13, 24 November '15

Lucien always loved these threads. Maybe he'll see it?

Anyway, is anyone out there homebrewing, and if so, how's it going?

I've done four all-grain homebrews so far, with mixed results:

1. A US style IPA - was really excellent, turned out it set the bar way too high
2. A porter which had a slightly odd tonic water taste, got better with age but the bottles all GUSHED when you opened them, so probably some kind of infection
3. A pale ale - not bad, surprisingly malty, sort of like a steam lager kind of taste
4. Another IPA, which has fucked up somehow, BUT: It tastes almost exactly like Oddbin's current Belgian IPA with 6 Degrees Brewing - really bitter, but with a kind of funky, spicy note. It wasn't a Belgian style yeast, so what went on? Is it over-attenuated? Infected? I left it in the original fermenter for probably a month after it went crazy in the beginning, so that might have played a part...

PS How the hell do you clean the inside of a glass demijohn which has thick krausen welded to the inside shoulders?
