I'm an aisle man, myself.

Flying back from the States recently, Virgin gave me a window seat, and wouldn't let me change my seat online, and when I asked at the desk at the gate, they were very rude about my request and basically laughed at me. When I got on the plane, the layout was three seats, four seats, and three seats, so I would have been trapped against the window by two people! When my seat mates arrived (a mother and her adult son), they immediately took out blankets, sleep masks, earplugs etc, and, fearful of being trapped for a whole flight, I asked if they wanted to swap, which thankfully they did, and I was free to use the toilet as I wished, while they slept for eight hours straight. Phew!
