Writing for free - AIBU?
There's a new website about the American football for UK readers, set up by the same guy who used to run a similar site - mildly popular, doubt it makes a tonne of money (if any) but I think the guy who runs it is doing it professionally.
Anyway, this new site put up a call for writers, and I thought, I enjoy writing, and the NFL, and write fun things for brusma's NFL blog, I'll get in touch. I did, and the dude replied, not in an unfriendly way, emphasising (literally, in italics), that they're looking for someone with a DEEP knowledge of the game who can meet professional standards, but, that I was welcome to send him two totally original pieces, then, if he liked those, have a phone or Skype interview, then if that went well, I could be a writer for the site.
Obviously, this is all totally unpaid. Despite the fact their website says: "We work full-time with our writers to bring a professional environment to new writers and create original, interesting content," all they're really offering is exposure at best. At this point, I decided the fun I would get out of writing for myself (and brusma) would not be fun in this context, so I made the decision to not respond. However, then I saw a tweet from the guy, and now I'm really irked:
"I really want to a write a 'what not to write when emailing asking for a job' post"
YOU'RE NOT OFFERING ANY JOBS BUCKO. PAY FUCKING PEANUTS, GET FUCKING MONKEYS. This is all bullshit right?
