Terminator: Genisys
I finally watched Terminator: Genisys. It is irredeemable dogshit which failed on almost every count: as an entertaining film, as a fan-service love letter to a couple of fondly remembered films which have been partially obscured by poor franchise continuations, and especially as a jump-off point for a new "cinematic Terminator universe", seeing as how it's very difficult to imagine where this now stultifyingly convoluted timeline is supposed to go next in any satisfying story terms.
As far as soft reboots go, it's definitely the worst I've seen. Even more so than Jurassic World (rubbish but largely harmless), Prometheus (rubbish but had some good ideas buried in its plot holes) and Star Trek (first one is stupid but really quite entertaining, Into Darkness is a clunky, grim mess).
I can't imagine even the people who flocked to Jurassic World are dying to see what happens next there. Surely the producers will just run in to the same dead end that they did after the first film and realise that the core concept that people respond to is THEME PARK GETS FUCKED UP BY DINOSAURS, and once you leave the theme park, audiences don't give a shit. Same problem comes up with Terminator: if Judgement Day is inevitable (and it has to be, since without it there are no Terminator robots, which is the main selling point of the franchise) then surely any further films are just pissing around in the shallow end of a story which has already been flogged to death.
Do you reckon they'll take another crack at this turkey, or is Terminator finally dead as fuck? Is there literally anywhere left for this story to go, even for a crack squad of godawful hack writers?
Also how much cash did they have to dump on James Cameron's doorstep for him to appear in the trailer for this bullshit?
