Leafleting for Elections and stuff

brusma [Edit] [Delete] 12:07, 4 May '16

so, there are elections all across the country tomorrow. did you know that? you did, good.

as a few other of you here i'm sure have been, i've been doing my bit to rearrange deckchairs on the Titanic by doing a little bit in my local area for my party's London mayor campaign. by a little bit, i mean i've been posting leaflets through letterboxes, occasionally getting nicks on my fingers through poorly-maintained letterboxes. so it goes.

it feels like an entirely futile enterprise. i barely ever read political leaflets, and i'm actually somewhat engaged. if you don't care about something already, a leaflet isn't going to make you care. it's almost a bit of we-have-to-do-something-but-there-aren't-enough-of-us-with-enough-time-to-go-canvas-the-entire-world. but...what alternative is there? the party i do bits for is quite small in my area - maybe they've got 15 to 20 volunteers, don't have the infrastructure to do say, mass mailouts, so you do what you can. but is leafleting better than doing nothing?

i feel like there should be a better way to reach less engaged people. let's all think about it, or just talk about the elections where you are
